Creating a space that softens the front of the house, which used to be a sea of concrete, two major things jumped out in the brief – the need for a grass lawn and car parking to be further away from the house. Significant work and money was spent on the retaining walls. They became a major feature of the design as we used form concrete and corten steel walls with a limited number of plants to keep the colour pallette controlled but varied. I’m a huge fan of repetition in design and simplicity that lets the beauty of great materials and craftsmanship shine through.
